General information
The “Altensteig Summer Music in the Upper Nagold Valley” is for
- string quartets wishing to extend their repertoire, to get ideas and to prepare for concerts and competitions
- students of the violin, viola, cello, double bass and piano, and those wishing to extend their repertoire, prepare for concerts, competitions, auditions and other exams. Complete chamber music ensembles can also apply to take part.
- highly gifted children and young people with basic technical knowledge;
- students of composition who have a concept, fragment or complete composition they wish to work on in composition classes, they can be instrumental and/or formal with respect to techniques of the 20th century
- teachers of instruments and musicians who are looking for ideas and new methods of teaching
The “Altensteig Summer Music in the Upper Nagold Valley” includes:
- master classes for string quartets
- master classes with accompaniment;
- lessons and group playing for children and young people;
- chamber music (string quartet, trio for strings, piano trio, etc.) and orchestral rehearsals;
- evening rehearsals, stage performances and closing concert;
- master classes for composition with possibilities of performances of the composed pieces
The “Altensteig Summer Music in the Upper nagold Valley” wants to support (with experienced artists and teachers) the musical technical development of talented young musicians and composers.
There will be opportunities for artists to meet with other highly motivated musicians from many nations, of different ages, teaching methods and skills. This is an important part of the course.
There will be the possiblity of “Adelheid-Karg-sponsorships” of the Karg-Stiftung für Hochbegabtenförderung for gifted musicians up to the age of 18 from families who are not able to pay the course fee.

The staff welcomes students and children to this residential school (CJD Jugenddorf) in Nagold which is situated in a tranquil part of the northern Black Forest.
There will be enough rooms for teaching and practice in the local nearby schools of Nagold. Students and children will be encouraged to work intensively on during the course.
There will also be ample opportunities for sports, table tennis, swimming, walking and jogging in the forest.
It is specially mentioned that participants of the master and children courses must follow the rules of the boarding school. Smoking and drinking alcohol within the houses is not allowed.
Those who don't obbey the rules are not allowed to take part on the courses.

Helmut Zehetmair: Famous Austrian Professor of violin – unconvential, individual teaching method – studied with S. Samohyl, chamber music with Bernhard Paumgartner, Sandor Vegh and Antonio Janigro - important ideas through talks with Safford Cape, Max Rostal, Ljerko Spiller and Ruggiero Ricci – Doctor of music science – 1974 –2004 Professor at the University Mozarteum Salzburg – many famous pupils who are now leaders, chamber musicians and soloists like Thomas Zehetmair etc.

Anna Kandinskaya: Studied at the Moskow Conservatory, at the Musikhochschule Bern as well as at the Royal College of Music London – many prizes, amongst them 1st prize of the Munich Konzerthausgesellschaft and at the Menuhin-Competition in Paris – international concerts with Guidon Kremer, Yuri Bashmet, Natalia Gutmann, Lars Vogt, Paul Gulda and others – since 2003 teacher at the Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Vienna

Tatiana Liberova: Famous Russian violin teacher – education in St. Petersburg – leader of a class of highly gifted young musicians and children at the special grammar school in St. Petersburg and guest professor at the college of Lahti (Finland) – many pupils as prizewinners of competitions – member of judging panels of many competitions in Russia and abroad – international teaching at master classes – Russian title of honour as a teacher and member of honour of the Philharmonic Society of St. Petersburg

Lena Neudauer: studied with Prof. Dr. Helmut Zehetmair, Prof. Dr. Thomas Zehetmair and Prof. Christoph Poppen – valuable impulses from Felix Andrievsky, Ana Chumenko, Midori Goto, Nibuko Imai and Seiji Ozawa – in 1999 1st prize of the Leopold-Mozart-Competition as well as the Richard-Strauss-Prize and the 1st prize of the public audience in Augsburg - international concerts and chamber music in concerts and festivals inclusive contemporary music – since 2010 professor at the Musikhochschule Saarbrücken – many radio and television recordings – CD recordings of all the literature for violin and orchestra by Robert Schumann

Reiko Oberhummer: studied with Prof Erika Lösch and Prof. Dr. Helmut Zehetmair at the University Mozarteum, with Prof. Yair Kless, Prof. Christiane Hutcap and Prof Igor Ozim – further training in teaching methods for violin with Prof. Ulrich Gröner, Monika Baer and Nicola Corti at the Music University of Zurich – numerous prizes in competitions e.g. 1st prize n Goricia /Italy – assistant teacher at the Music Universityof Zurich – international concerts as soloist, in chamber music and as member of different orchestras – CD and radio recordings

COMPOSITION:
Minas Borboudakis: Pianist and composer- studied with Wilfried Hiller (Munich) and Peter Michael Hamel (Hamburg) – master classes with Wolfgang Rihm, George Crumb and Luciano Berio – roots of his compositions in the Greek music culture – many international concerts – close cooperation with Peter Sadlo, Guidon Kremer and Kremerata Baltica as well as the radio-symphony orchestras of the SWR, BR, SR, the Ensemble Modern, the Munich chamber orchestra and others
In Nagold: master classes for composition: in daily three-hour workshops. The prepared pieces are analysed as well as given ideas for composition concepts. Practical work with rehearsals of the composed pieces with musicians fm the master classes on two days within the festival. There is the opportunity of having the composed pieces played in the dail concerts.

The courses can be attended by those who wish to listen as well as young musicians.
Course members must prepare two complete pieces by different composers in advance of the course.
However for children, one piece of an appropriate level of difficulty is sufficient.
